If you've been lucky enough to visit an exclusive French restaurant, you'll surely believe us. Traditional French cuisine is a colourful mosaic of original culinary arts. Whether we're talking about the taste experience, the variety of ingredients, the composition of the dishes, the sophistication of the preparation, the aesthetic appeal or the way they are served.

No wonder that just French gastronomy inspires many of the world's chefs to this day, and its typical features can be seen in other cuisines as well. From vegetables to fresh fish and meat, quality ingredients are the foundation of French cuisine. French cooking places great emphasis on the freshness and seasonality of ingredients, which allows dishes to stand out in their full flavour.

What is typical French cuisine?

Regional French cuisine is based on locality, seasonality and simplicity. While on the coast you can taste mainly fish and seafood, the interior boasts recipes rich in quality meats and delicious cheeses.

Herbs

An integral part of French food is the fines herbes, a mixture of finely chopped fresh herbs. It includes parsley, chives, tarragon and watercress. Often black pepper, bay leaves or ginger are also added to the mix. Fines herbes can be found in French soups, sauces and omelettes.

French soups are often decorated with a typical herb bouquet called bouquet garni. Thyme, garlic and parsley add an unmistakable flavour to broths and soups.

French cuisine is a delight not only for the taste buds, but also for the eyes. The aesthetic appearance of the dishes and the way they are served are key in French cuisine. Each dish resembles a work of art prepared with special care by a passionate chef.

Compulsory specialties

French cuisine is every vegetable, cheese and seafood lover's dream. Almost every dish includes vegetables and spices, and French cheeses are never missing from the table. Salads made from fresh, steamed or boiled vegetables are, of course, an essential part of the menu. Artichokes, asparagus, peas, carrots, beans, spinach, spinach, sorrel, celery and celeriac, radishes, cucumbers, pumpkins, fresh and sauerkraut - the French love vegetables.

French cuisine, chef

Among the typical French dishes include a vegetable dish Ratatouille, oysters or Marseille Bouillabaisse, a fish soup with an unmistakable taste. Soupe à l'oignon, an onion soup whose recipe has been around for hundreds of years, is also a must. This traditional dish has also made its way from local bistros to upmarket French restaurants.

We must not forget the wine either. Coq au Vin, Boeuf Bourguignon, Escargot or Poulet à l'Estragon. White and red wine form the basis of many French main courses. Many sauces and marinades contain wine, which adds depth and richness of flavour. In addition, wine is also used to braise meat or fish, so the result is a delight for the most discerning palates.
