Ratatouille (read ratatouille) is a delicious vegetable dish that originated in the south of France. The first mention of this dish dates back to the 18th century, when it was mainly eaten by soldiers in need of a nutritious meal.

 

At that time, ratatouille was a combination of vegetable broth, beans and meat. However, the recipe was gradually simplified and soon became a staple of every common kitchen in the south of the country.

Although in France this dish was known to everyone, in our country it was made famous by the film Ratatouille from 2007. The tale of a mouse who mastered the art of cooking made this vegetable dish so famous that more and more people are looking for a recipe for its preparation.

How to prepare Ratatouille?

The basis of the recipe is fresh vegetables and fragrant herbs. It is therefore ideal if you prepare ratatouille during the summer season. But that doesn't mean you can't prepare a delicious dish today.

For its preparation you will need your favourite vegetables of your choice.

For example:

  • zucchini
  • tomatoes
  • garlic
  • onions
  • paprika
  • eggplant

If you want the dish to look really appealing, use vegetables of different colours (red and white peppers, yellow and green zucchini, etc.).

Use basil, marjoram, thyme, olive oil, salt and white wine for seasoning.

 

The procedure is simple, you can even choose from several preparation methods. The easiest way is to cut the vegetables into smaller pieces, mix them and bake them in a baking dish.

However, a truly French ratatouille can be baked if you cut the vegetables into rounds, place them in a baking dish and bake them.

Serve ratatouille with fish or meat, or enjoy it with fresh bread and a glass of French wine.
