French cuisine is an endless well of delicious desserts. If you haven't yet tasted the traditional Mille feuille dessert, you should remedy that as soon as possible. Egg yolk-vanilla cream, refreshing raspberries and a perfectly crisp pastry. You will simply fall in love with this combination.

 

If you've already tried the delicious Paris Brest wreaths and the luxurious Choux au craquelin windbreakers, Mille feuille is next in line. This dessert is made up of several sheets of crispy puff pastry, which has also earned it its own opinion. Thousands of petals.

Where did Mille feuille come from?

 

The puff pastry slices are topped with a delicious egg yolk cream, called crème pâtissière. The dessert is sometimes filled with fresh raspberries, strawberries or sliced almonds.

 

The origin of this dessert is not entirely clear. However, we can say with certainty that the first references date back to the 17th century. It is said to have been created by François Pierre de La Varenne, who describes it in his Cuisinier françois of 1651. However, many pastry chefs agree that the dessert was only made famous by the famous pastry chef Adolphe Seugnot, who began offering it in his patisserie in the 19th century.

 

Initially, fruit jam was used for the preparation, which was later replaced by fruit. Since then, the recipe has undergone many modifications, but it is still very popular today. The dessert, composed of three layers of puff pastry separated by vanilla cream, with the top glazed with icing sugar, has become an essential part of French cuisine. It can be found in French homes, but also in the most sophisticated patisseries.
